Individual Details
Jacob Miller
(Bet 1750 and 1770 - Aft 19 Aug 1824)
Jacob Miller and family sailed from Port Tobacco, Maryland, for Louisiana on Jan 5, 1769. There were a mixture of Acadians, who were exiled to Maryland, aboard La Britannia, and a group of Alsatians. This ship missed the mouth of the Mississippi, and sailed on westward, finally landing in Texas. After many hardships, the group was finally permitted to trek overland, and ended up in Natchitoches, LA. From there they were sent to Manchac and the German Coast. This was to be the last group of Alsatians (Germans) to enter Louisiana until after statehood. (See also the entries for Oliver and Jean Charles Benoit, who were also aboard La Britannia.)
Jacob Miller was known and referred to in legal documents as either Jacob (German), Jacques (French), or Santiago (Spanish), depending on the nationality in charge of the recording of the information.
