EXTRACT from ST MARTIN PARISH SUCCESSIONS (1820-1850) pages 63 & 64: #133. JOHN [JEAN?] BAPTISTE BERTRAND, JR., DEC. 19 AUG. 1624
Decedent died intestate, leaving a widow, Celeste Miller, and 3 minor children: 1. Hebert, 2. Lastie, 3. CaLista Bertrand, by his marriage with the said Celeste Miller, who is their natural tutrix. Inventory taken at the residence of Jacob Miller; Joseph Charpantier and Charles Therio appointed appraisers. Fam. meeting: Jacob Miller, grandfather; Sophia [Offman, or Hoffman, Bodin 1 3021] Miller, grandmother; Sophia Miller, wife of Jesse Tomblinson, and Margaret Miller, aunts of minors; and John Baptiste Miller, uncle.
2 Oct. 1824. Buyers at sale, Nicolas Broussard, Julian Lablasan, Antoine Bertrand, Celeste Miller, Ursin Prevost, Lufroy Carlin; Lufroy Carlin and William Rochel witnessed. Antoine Bertrand identified as the minors' uncle. Celeste Miller married John Felteman and then after his death married Hypolite Magnian or Maganow, Magnon.
21 July 1838. Antoine Bertrand appointed tutor, Hypolite Maganow undertutor to Lastis Bertrand and Calista Bertrand. Antoine Bertrand and Hubert Bertrand securities.
Gen. note. Decedent is identified as the son of Jean Baptiste Bertrand and Marguerite Schnexnayder; he married Celeste Miller, 17 May 1813 at St. Martinville. Antoine was another son of the above couple. See Bodin 1 38.
