Death
Obituary: Elvin Daigle, 93, a long-time resident of Palo Alto, died Jan. 16, 2009. He was born in Louisiana, residing primarily in Sulphur and working as service manager for Sulphur Ford Motor Co. for 20 years before moving with his wife Helen and their three children to Palo Alto in 1956. He worked as a research technician at Stanford Research Institute for more than 20 years and then was employed in data collection at Hewlett-Packard, retiring in 1982. A veteran of World War II, he served as a Transport Corporal in the 70th Infantry Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in 1944. He was stationed in both France and Germany. His last residence was Channing House in Palo Alto, where he and Helen lived for the last 15 years; Helen died in 2007. He is survived by his daughters, Jeanie of Palo Alto and Charlotte ofSanta Fe, N.M.; son, Ronald of Redmond, Wash.; sisters, Helen Johnson and Barbara Heddins; and a large extended family in Louisiana and Texas. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 1:30 p.m. at Channing House, 850 Webster St., Palo Alto, with a reception immediately following. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Wesley Methodist Church in Palo Alto or the Channing House Employees Appreciation Fund. (Palo Alto Weekly January 30, 2009)
