Obituary: Hazel D. (Hayes) Abshier was born October 12, 1910, to Francis Monroe Abshier and Mary Emelia Lenormand Abshier. He was the 12th of thirteen children. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Joseph Franklin, Emelius Fletcher, Cornelius C., Eugene Sewall, John Welcome, Charles, George William, Monroe Sullivan, and Milton E.; and sisters, R.D. Gatlin, Rachel Marie Chambliss, and Corrine Abshier. In August of 1934, he married Bonnie Faye Moore of Devers, Texas. Mrs. Abshier taught many years at Baytown Junior High. Mrs. Abshier died in 1965 after 31 years of marriage. Mr. Abshier and Alma Baker Hubbard were married in 1966, and made Wimberley, Texas, their home. For almost 30 years, the two traveled and enjoyed and their home on the Blanco River. Hayes was a 25 year member of the Lions Club in Wimberley. A daughter, Sandra Abshier Voytek and husband, Kenneth of Dayton, a son, Gary Allen Abshier and wife Judy, of Baytown, and daughter, Carole Hubbard Beasley and husband Earl of Ballard, Texas, survive Mr. Abshier. There are seven grandchildren, Marcia Voytek Tillman and Tom of Conroe, Meredith Voytek Eggleston and Rick of Tomball, Greg Allen Abshier and Cheryl, Allison Abshier Griffis and Toby all of Baytown, and Michael Beasley and wife, Kamal, Karen Beasley, Kathy and Steve Baker all of Houston. Great grandchildren include Sarah and Julia Tillman, Kathryn and Andrew Eggleston, Corbin and Christa Abshier, Cody and Reagan Griffis, Duane Beasley and wife Ivana, Angela Beasley, Raven Beasley, and Taylor and Kendall Baker. Visitation will be Saturday evening from 6:00 8:00 p.m. at Navarre Funeral Home. Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, June 13, 2004, 2:00 p.m. at Navarre Chapel with Rev. Brad Hoffman officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery in Daisetta, TX. Pallbearers will be Rick Eggleston, Tom Tillman, Greg Abshier, Toby Griffis, Michael Beasley, and Steve Taylor.
