Death
Obituary: GROVES- John W. "Bill" Landry, 81, of Groves , Texas passed away on March 6, 2007 at his home after a long illness. He was born in Crowley, Louisiana and lived in the Port Arthur area since he was 15 years old. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Port Arthur. John was employed at Gulf Oil as an operator and retired after 30 years of service. He served in U.S. Marine Corp during WWII, Korean Conflict and the Battle of Iwo Jima with the Fourth Marine Division as a First Sergeant and retired from the corp. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Groves. John is survived by his wife, Verna Landry of 61 years, his daughter FlorenceDollins of Groves, son John W. Landry, Jr. and his wife, Liz of Groves, Texas. Also a daughter who has passed Carolyn Landry. He is also survived by three grandkids, Patrick Dollins and his wife, Pat, Chris Dollins and his wife, Grace and Jessica Landry. He is also survived by six step grandkids, Airman 1st Class Cody, who is in the U. S. Air Force, Chris Garman, Brittany, Kayla, Katie and John Charles. He is survived by seven great grandkids, Logan, Jaden Dollins, Chris Jr., Carolyn, Brandon, Kylie and Jayden.He is also survived by his sister, Lucille Hebert of Bridge City and his brother, Wilson Landry of Groves as well several nieces and nephews.He was loved by many friends and family and he will be missed. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 5 P.M. to 10 P.M. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. at Clayton Thompson Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 10, 2007 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Groves. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Clayton Thompson Funeral Directors. Note: Bill was the son of Cyril and Lilly Sarver Landry. Lilly was the daughter of Louis Hatter Sarver and Marie Aurora Bertrand Sarver.
