CROWLEY - Sybil Spell, 75, of Westlake died in Marshalltown, Iowa, Wednesday morning, July 5, 2006. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 8 at the Duhon Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be Saturday, July 8 from 1 p.m. until time of services. She will be laid to rest in the Indian Bayou Cemetery. Rev. Randy Paul will officiate for the services. Born on May 14, 1931 in Crowley, she was the daughter of Joseph and Dora (Linscombe) Morgan. She received her education in the area of her birth. On December 12, 1949, she was united in marriage to Carl Spell in Crowley. They moved to Westlake in 1957 where she was a homemaker until his death in 1969 after 20 years of marriage. She began working as a nursing assistant and enjoyed her job of bringing care to those in need. Sybil did this for 10 years. In August of 2004, she moved to Marshalltown to be near her daughter, Ann and her family. Sybil was loving wife, mother and grandmother who will be fondly remembered for her love of cooking chicken gumbo, shrimp stew and pork roast. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, Channel 52 and Hank Williams music and had been a member of the Nazarene Church. She will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. Left to mourn her loss are her children, Ann Determan and her husband, Gene of Marshalltown, Iowa; Kenneth Spell and his wife, Kathy of Houston; and her son-in-law, Randall Reeves of Westlake; her grandchildren, Hollie Reeves Comeaux and her husband, Ryan of Sulphur; Jonathan Determan of Marshalltown; her step-grandchildren, Andrea Determan of Ames, Iowa; Terri Madrid of Las Cruces, N.M.; and Jackie Tretten of Vacquille, Calif.; one great grandson, Payton Comeaux; and one great grandson by marriage, Bradyn Romero, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
In death she has rejoined her parents, her husband, her daughter, Janet Spell Reeves who died in 2004; her daughter, Peggy Michelle Burke who died at age eight; her sister, Lillie Hoffpauir and her brothers, Elsie Morgan and Joseph Morgan Jr. Duhon Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
