My research indicates the following is a reasonable way that Pierre Savoie,
son of Paul Savoie and Judith Michel, may have come to Louisiana.
Among Paul Savoie and Judith Michel's children were:
Marie-Josephe Savoie b. 26 Mar 1726
Pierre Savoie b. 26 Jun 1741
Anastasie Savoie b. ca. 1743
Marie-Josephe Savoie married Paul Leger b. ca 1728 (Jacques Leger & Anne
Amirault) ca. 1750.
In the list of prisoners at Halifax on 12 August 1763 is: Paul Legere, his
wife, 4 children.
These may be Paul Leger (age 35), Marie-Josephe Savoie (age 37),
Scholastique Leger b. ca. 1757, Olivier? Leger b. 3 Aug 1755, Pierre Savoie
and Anastasie Savioe, siblings of Marie-Josephe.
Paul and/or his family came to Louisiana in February 1765 with Joseph
Broussard or in one of the groups that came later that same year for in the
25 April 1766 census of Opelousas are found:
Pedro Savoye- 1 "Hombres de Armas"
La veuve Maria Savoye- 1 "Mujeres", 1 "Ninos", 1 "Ninas" (tilde over n in
last two)
Anastasie Savoie married ca. 1765 Charles Comeau (Jean Comeau & Madeleine
Amirault) and we find in the same census:
Carlos Coumau- 1 "Hombres de Armas", 1 "Mujeres".
Sometime betweem 12 August 1763 and 25 April 1766, Paul Leger had died.
Marie-Josephe Savoie married 30 Jan 1769 Jean-Baptiste Missouere
(Jean-Baptiste Missouere & Louise-Marguerite Desmaillets) DOBRCCR v. 1 p.
197) and moved to Pointe Coupee District. She was buried there 15 Feb 1775
(DOBRCCR v. 2 p. 549).
The son of Marie-Josephe (Oliver?): I have found no further record for after
the census.
The daughter of Marie-Josephe, Scholastique, married Joseph Jansonne and was
buried 28 Jan 1817 (Hebert SWLR v. 2A p. 613).
Pierre Savoie married Louise Bourg (Charles Bourg & Anne Boudreau) (Hebert
SWLAR v. 1A p. 98) and died 23 Mar 1788 (Hebert SWLAR v. 1A p. 702).
Anastasie Savoie was buried 18 Oct 1802 (Hebert SWLAR v. 1B p. 644).
I think the above is a reasonable explanation of how these members of the
Savoie family came to be in Louisiana.
