There is a question as to my father’s (Ralph Walter Camp) birth year. His tombstone and his birth certificate both say 8 Sep 1919. However, his sister Inez was born 13 Apr 1919 only 5 months before. The 1930 Anderson County, Texas census taken 8 April 1930 has him as 7 yrs old; this would place his birth date in 1922. He told me when I was younger that he was actually born on 8 Sep 1921 and that his mother Lydia had put an earlier birth date when she applied for his certificate to make him appear older. I can’t recall the reason. However, the certificate does bear out the 1921 year if you take it into context with his parent’s birth dates. The certificate says that his father was 38 yrs and his mother was 27 yrs old at the time of birth. Walter Raleigh Camp was born in 1883 (1883 + 38 = 1921). Lydia Eileen Michael was born 17 Sep 1894 (1894 + 27 = 1921). So I am going to show his birth date as 8 Sep 1921 and the 1919 as alternate. (Tim Camp, in email message dated 5 July 2004)
