Death

Obituary - Charles Willard Smiley, 83, passed away Monday, May 15, 2006 at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Willard and Vera Smiley. A native of Port Arthur and lifelong resident of Groves he was retired after 35 years from the Texaco Filter Department. Mr. Smiley was a World War II veteran who served in the Solomon Islands with the Sea Bees. Funeral services will be conducted by Reverend Ralph Foster, Thursday, May 18, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Levingston Funeral Home in Groves, Texas. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Smiley was a charter member of Bethel Temple and his signature is on every legal document the church possess. He served on the Board of Directors and in other capacities. He was at the church every day of the week seeing that the property was maintained properly. No job was to difficult or to tiring. He faithfully attended the worship services and took part in the financial accountability each week. He was loved and honored by all, young and old, and was known by them as "Uncle Charley". Mr. Smiley is survived by his wife of 59 years, Yvonne Hoffpauir Smiley; one daughter, Sharon Waters of Vidor; two granddaughters Robbie (Jason) Robichau of Bryan, Texas and Paula Waters (Greg) Stockman of Vidor; one brother Eugene Smiley (Betty) and niece Tammy Paris of Huntsville along with numerous nephews and nieces. 5601 39th St. Groves, TX 77619 (409) 962-4455 (Beaumont Enterprise, 17 May 2006)
