Esther James Meariman
(21 Jan 1855 - 16 Feb 1907)
"Funeral Sunday Afternoon at 3 O'clock Conducted by Rev. W. W. Drake at Southern Methodist Church
The home of S. D. Wilder on Avenue F in South Crowley is plunged in darkness and a good wife and mother has gone to her reward. Mrs. Wilder, after a seventeen days' illness with pneumonia, passed away Saturday at 9:15 o'clock.
Mrs. Wilder was Miss Esther James Meariman. She was born in Mecklenburg county, Virginia, January 21, 1855. After residing there for a few years her parents came to Louisiana and settled in Terre Bonne parish and when she was 11 years of age they came to Acadia parish. In June, the fifth day, 1887, she and Mr. Wilder were married at the home of Mrs. Wilder's brother, Ben F. Meariman, south of the city. After their marriage they moved to this city and have lived here ever since.
Mrs. Wilder is survived by her husband, five daughters, Misses Julia, Susie, Fannie, Callie, and Blanche and one son, David; three sisters, Mrs. J. C. Labit, Mrs. S. L. Stephens and Mrs. H. L. Desonier, of Adeline, La., and one brother, Ben F. Meariman.
Mrs. Wilder had endeared herself in the hearts of many people of Crowley. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, South, and was one of its staunchest workers. She will be mourned by many and her place in the circle of the legion of friends will be hard to fill. To the bereaved ones goes out the heartfelt sympathy of the entire (sic) community.
The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the Methodist Episcopal church, South, and Rev. W. W. Drake, pastor of the church conducted the service." The Crowley Signal, Crowley, Louisiana, February 23, 1907
