Obituary: Richard David Meaux, 56, died May 15, 2010, in Eunice, LA. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Nazarene Church for Richard David Meaux, 56, who died Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Acadian Medical Center in Eunice following a courageous battle with cancer. Richard was a loving family man. He enjoyed his pets, Cajun culture and sitting around with friends enjoying a good time always ready to lend a hand. He enjoyed playing fiddle and guitar and jamming with friends. Richard's hobbies included fishing, hunting, shooting his sniper rifle, flying a helicopter. His love and passion for riding his Harley was evident to everyone. Among other accomplishments, Richard co-wrote "The Visit," which won 1999 Cajun French Music Association's Song of the Year. Performed by Lee Benoit and the Bayou Stompers, "The Visit," also received a Grammy nomination that same year. His other song credits include, "Stand by You," performed by Damon Troy, "Any Other Place," performed by Mike DaFour, "Cajun Boogie Man," and "Mad Mother-in-law," performed by Don Fontenot. Other songs written by Richard were performed by Chubby Carrier and Kevin Naquin. A host of other awards were presented to Richard for his contributions to the music industry. Pastor T. will officiate for the services. The family requests visiting hours Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Burial will be in Indian Bayou Methodist Cemetery. Richard is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Janice Foreman Meaux of Indian Bayou; one daughter, Amy Simon Gautreaux and her husband Damian of Crowley; one grandson, Sagan Simon of Crowley; parents, Rodney Joseph and Lauraine Thibodeaux Meaux of Crowley; three sisters, Carol Simoneaux of Crowley, Helena Meaux of Alexandria, Pam Hebert of Slidell; one brother, Austin Meaux of Crowley; along with numerous nieces and nephews, friends, and extended family members. Special friends, Jerry and Lilly Thompson, Agnes Patin, Norma Weekley, and Richard's parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Huey Foreman are thanked for their love and support. Pallbearers will be Damian Gautreaux, Gabriel Hebert, Jeremy Simoneaux, Joshua Simoneaux, Joe Desormeaux, Tilford Simoneaux. Honorary pallbearer will be Jerry Thompson.
