Individual Details
Thomas A. Hayes
(12 Jan 1893 - 7 Jun 1964)
Tommy Hayes is said to have travelled a distance of 60 miles (Bell City to
Ebenezer) to court Lettie Hoffpauir. Frank Hoffpauir recalls that he would
leave at about 4:30 Saturday morning with a horse & buggy and arrive about 5:00
in the evening. Frank's big brother Teddy went with Tommy a few times. If they
took a wagon instead of the buggy, they expected to arrive around 9:00 PM,
depending on how hard it was to pull themselves across the many streams with
the hand powered ferrys.
