Extract from Freedom of City Admission Papers:Chamber of London 6th day of July 1942 - Born within the liberty of the City, to wit at St Bride, Fleet Street, James Sanderson Clarke - son of Thomas Clarke Citizen and Cordwainer of London, came before the Chamberlain, the day and year aforesaid, and desired to be admitted into the freedom of this city by patrimony, in the said company of Cordwainers because he is legitimate, and was born after the admission of his father into the said freedom. The admission of the father is entered in the book marked with the letter E and bears the date the ___ day of January in the ____year of the reign of George the third and in the year of our Lord 1818 ? 1820.

We declare, upon the oaths we severally took at the time of our admission into the freedom of this city, that James Sanderson Clarke is the son of Thomas Clarke Citizen and Cordwainer of London, and that he was born in lawful wedlock, after the admission of his father into the freedom of this city; and that he is his son reputed and taken to be, and so we all say.

Extract from London & Surrey Marriage Bonds & Allegations.Diocese of London - 23 August 1865 - Appeared personally James Sanderson Clarke of the parish of Saint Dunstan Stepney in the county of Middlesex a bachelor of the age of twenty one years and upwards and prayed a licence for the solemnization of matrimony in the parish Church of Saint Dunstan Stepney aforesaid between him and Annie Pitt of the same parish, a spinster, of the age of twenty one years and upwards, and made oath that he believeth that there is no impediment of kindred or alliance, or of any other lawful cause, nor any suit commenced in any Ecclesiastical Court to bar or hinder the proceeding of the said matrimony, according to the tenor of such licence. And he further made oath, that she the said Annie Pitt hath had her usual place of abode within the said parish of Saint Dunstan Stepney for the space of fifteen days last past.
