Leah Lewis married (1) Samuel Simmons,(2) David Thompson and (3)Nathaniel Childs. Leah Lewis Childs was babtized in 1842 in Naubvoo for aWilliam Card, second cousin, for a Dorcas Card, second cousin and a Nancy Cardthird cousin. This is one of the few clues we had to go on in the search forthe parents of Sarah Card of New Ashford, Massachusetts, who married GideonLewis. A deed in Berkshire County, Mass., showed that on 15 Apr 1790 acommittee for the Commonwealth deeded William Card 80 acres of land in NewAshford of which acreage 40 acres were compensation for his services to thestate in settling uncultivated lands, preparing roads,etc. This land adjoinsGideon Lewis's corner. (Book 4,pg 271, Adams Registry of Deeds)
 
Shewas a widow of Samuel Simmons when she married John David T. Her parents wereGideon and Sarah(Card) Lewis. After Thompson died she remarried NathanialChilds. The place of death suggests she belonged to the Morman Faith. Her sonJames Lewis T. was part of the Mormon Battalion that marched to California in1845-6.
