"Thomas Fitch of Brocking, Essex, England, was the father of the four Fitch brothers who settled in Connecticut. He was born in 1590 and christened in 1598. He was the eldest son and heir of George of Braintree, Essex, England, and his wife Joan (Thurgood) Fitch. He was the grandson of Roger and Margery Fitch of Panfield and Bocking, Essex, England. He was the great-grandson of Thomas of Brazen Head, Lindsell, Essex, England, and his wife Agnes (Alger) Fitch." "The House of Fitch"; 929.273; F551f; Vol. 1; Chapter II; p. 31-36Thomas was the son of George Fitch and Joan Thurgood born in 1590 at Bocking, Essex County, England. He married Anne Reeve, daughter of John Reeve of Gosfield, Essex County, England, on 8 Aug 1611 at St. Mary's Church at Bocking, Essex County, England. Thomas died in Jan 1633. His will dated 11 Dec 1632 and was proved 12 Feb 1633 recorded at the New England Historical Genealogical Register, Vol. 46.
Biographical sketch: Thomas was a great land owner and cloth manufacturer. His will names seven sons and three daughters. Four of the sons were early settlers in Connecticut. His widow, Anne Reeve, was living at Hartford, CN. with her son Joseph Fitch I, in 1669.
Title (Nobility)
Sir Thomas Fitch, of Eltham, in Kent Co. England was created a Baronet by the King of England, by Patent #905. He was a Judge of much distinction ,and was mentioned as such by Sir William Blackstone. Thomas Fitch, lineal descendant of Baron Fitch, died in Braintree, Essex, England leaving a widow and several sons, who came to America between the years of 1634 and 1638, having sold the family estate, which was situated at Birch, Essex County, England. Thomas is mentioned in Court Records dated 30 Oct 1628 as on the Grand Jury, 27 Sep 1630, when he purchased 3 pieces of property from his wife's cousin for L660, and 23 sep 1614, when he went to Court over a stolen pillowcase. Lived at Bocking, Essex, England.Thomas and his brother Joseph settled in Norwalk, Connecticut. They were planters and with their neighbors purchased a tract of land from Runckingheage and other Indian Chiefs, by deed dated February 15, 1651.
