William PERKINS
(15 Mar 1692 - 1760)
William Perkins inherited part of the tract of land called "Atrop" which his father owned when he passed away. After a new survey of the property, a patent was issued 1732 Nov 23, for 423 acres. The three brothers divided the land so that; Richard received 175 acres in the northern part; William received 121 acres extending southward from Herring Run and Elisha received 127 acres in the western portion. The three brothers settled this division about 1735. However, by 1741 Nov 28 William and Richard were making out Deeds to each other and in these it states that Elisha no dec'd. (Deed Book TB#A pages 123-131, Hall of Records, Annapolis, MD. William and Elisha Perkins served as securities 1720 Mr 5 for James Holliday, the administrator for Jane Treadway. William was a witness to the will of Richard Jenkins, 1734 Nov 17. It seems that William Perkins must have settled on his portion of land about 1732. This was on the Susquehanna River near Lapidum and here William established "Perkin's Ferry" which he operated until his death. The land called "Eytrype" was resurveyed 1766 Aug 26 and vacant land added to the survey for Reubin Perkins, son of William and Elizabeth, and now the tract is called "Perkins Vallies" (Deed Book BC & GS pages 435, 436, 437. Hall of Records) IN Deed Book dated 1771 Dec 30 Reubin Perkins and his mother Elizabeth are selling small lots from "Perkins Vallies" and Sarah wife of Reubin appears to acquit her dower rights.
