Individual Details
Sir John TAYLOR III
(1544 - )
Father
of John Taylor Died
1551 [location unknown]
John Taylor, it is written, "held a respectable rank amongst the smaller gentry of Gloucestershire" where they owned an estate at Frampton-on-Severn.
He had sons Edmund and Nathaniel Taylor who were contemporary with Dr. Rowland Taylor. Edmund was a barber by trade in London at that time.
When persecution began in England soon after the death of Henry VIII, many Protestants fled to other countries. It is believed that Edmund and Nathaniel went to Ireland when Dr. Rowland was martyred.
Taylors were certainly in Ireland by 1610 when King James I authorized an English settlement of Merchant Tailors at Macosquin after the overthrow of the Earl of Tyonne in Ireland 1609. The Irish Taylors had the same Coat of Arms as the English Taylors, granted in Dublin 1668.
John Taylor and sons were prominent men in England. They operated Merchant Taylor Cloth-making Guild and Merchant Taylor school.[Mary K. Leitner]
