Daniel MATTENEYE

Daniel was also called Daniel Mathenia.

Daniel immigrated to america with his brother Michael, believed to have first been in Surry county, Virginia; then to Charles county, Maryland; then to Stafford county, Virginia.

Aug. 5,1664, Daniel bought Wentworth-Woodhouse plantation in Stafford county from his father in law,Thomas wenthworth. He also aquired Portowne,Fernes,Mathena's Folly, Cowland, and Hope plantations. He moved to Hope plantation, where he lived until his death.

The records of the Maryland historical Society contain an abstract of a deed given in Charles County, Md., by Mattias O'Brian in 1663, for the sale of 300 acres of land to 'Daniel Macheny' of Virginia. A later entry in the Charles County Court Recordsis to the effect that Daniel Mathena has just paid to Mattias O'brian a large amount of tobacco which was due two years before on the purchase of 300 acres of land. ( This entry is in the Calvert copy of the rent rolls, and was transcribed in colonial times).
