Benjamin MAYO

(Bef 1768 - Aft 1806)

Undoubtley a son of Moses and Phebe (Freeman) Mayo, was bapt. at Harwich (Brewster), 28 Aug 1768, and went to Hardwich, MA, with, or bef., his father. We have not learned the place and date of his death. He went from Princeton, MA to Marlborough, NH in 1794. He moved from Marlborough to S. and owned and lived upon the old farm at at 257, afterwards occupied by D. B. Brooks, from 1806 to 1808. He md. 31 Mar 1793, Sarah (Sallie) Gleason, b. in Princeton, MA, 5 Feb 1772; d. place unknown, July 16, 1853; dau. of Thomas and Sarah (Stratton) Gleason of Princeton. She was a sister of Mrs. Amasa Brown, Sr., who lived on the old Bayley place at 258 1/2, also at 259 and later, at 258. They had 3 children; we d/n know the hist. of these children. A child of Mr. Mayo d. in S. in 1806 (possibly on May 12, the church reister is a little indefinite), but this imperfect rec. leaves us in doubt whether one of these three is intended, or whether there was another whose name and birth we do not know. Mr. Mayo moved to S. in 1806. He had previously lived in Marlborough after his marriage. The Marlborough recs. give only these three ch. We, therefore, conclude that the cild which d. of one of these, and the yougest, Benjamin, Jr. would most likely be the one whose age whould call for the designation, "child".
