Source text: In the Name of God Amen the first day of November 1762 I John Turner of Halifax County planter being sick and weak in Body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to God for it therefore calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appropriate for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say principally and last of all I give and commend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God that gavest and my body I commend to the Earth to be buried in a decent Christian Burial at the discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the General resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty Power of God and as forsaking such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. Item I will and bequeath to my wife six head of Horse Creatures three cows two calves and one heifer and half the Hogs as I one [own] and half the household goods and Chattles as I one [own] and apeace of Land at Portomuck on Goos Crick and four Sheep -- Whom I likewise Constitute make and ordain my Soul Executrix of this my last Will and Testament. I will and bequeath to my Son James Turner Six head of Horse Creatures and apiece of Land in Smiths River between the Angelus Falls and Nickellases Crick. [See Note 1 in Discussion entitled "Comment on 'John Turner's Will'"] I will and begueath to my two Daughters Elisabeth Turner and Jesesy Turner apiece of Land Called Butram Town to be equally divided between them and by them to be Enjoyed forever and the one half of my house and Goods and Chattles and half my Cattle and Hogs to be divided between my six Children I had by my first wife. [See Note 2 in Discussion entitled "Comment on 'John Turner's Will'"] I will and bequeath to my other two Daughters Jimima Turner and Mary Turner apeace of Land on Smiths River where I did formerly live my self on the South Side of the River about one mile below the mouth of Goblin Town Crick. I will and bequeath to my Son John Turner and my Son Israel Turner one negro man named Bob to be divided between them when they come of the age of Eighteen years old if they cannot agree for one to keep him and pay the other he must be sold and the money divided between them. I will and bequeath to my son John apeace of Land on Runel Bag near the mouth of the Crick. I will and bequeath to my son Israel apiece of Land on Goblin Town Crick at the mouth of that Branch. I will and bequeath to my Son John one Rifle Gun and the Labor of the Negro I devised to be for to Raise the Six Children as I had by my first wife till [one?] of the Boys is Eighteen years old. And I do hereby nullify remake and disanull all and every other former testamentary Wills Securities and Bequests and Executors by me in any such before named willes and Bequeaths and Ratifying & Confessing this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament In ????? when I have hereunto set my hand and seal this first day of November Signed Sealed and published promissed and ????? by the said John Turner as herewithall and Testament with Presenting is the Subscribed I do hereby appoint my two Elder Girls for my Executors. [See Note 3 in Discussion entitled "Interpretation of John Turner's Will"] Signed John Turner Witnesses: Archibald Thompson, Samuel Crowley, James Strong At a Court held of Halifax County the 21st Day of June 1764 this will was presented in Court by Elizabeth Turner one of the Executrixes herein named who made Oath hereto the same being proved by the Oath of two of the witnesses hereto was asesed to be seconded. And on ???ation the said Executrix Certificate was granted her for ???? obtaining a probate hereof in due form. Many ???? obtained ???? became her Securites and they ??? into ????? Bono assessing to same. Test. Arhurford ??? Truly recorded ?????????????
