Military
While at Lens, Artois, France (now in Flanders, Belgium) during the Battle of the Somme, Philipp Ludwig was badly wounded in one arm, leg and shoulder by a hand grenade on 21 August 1916. He was taken to the military hospital Charlottenstift in Stadtoldendorf, Lower Saxony, Germany, where he was treated until 30 September 1916. He served until 1917.Endnotes
