Samuel Titus Crotts
(1 Feb 1846 - 25 Jul 1935)
The oldest son of Jacob Crotts and Elizabeth Lambeth. That was Samuel Titus Crotts born 01 February 1846 in Davidson County, North Carolina, He served in the Junior Militia which was called to duty during the last days of the Civil War. he was capture by the Army of the Potomac and was paroled, furnished Transportation to Norfolk, Virginia and made his way back to North Carolina on his own. He married Charity Myers 05 October 1865 in Randolph County, NC and they became the parents of four children, Irina was born about 1866 in Randolph County, but she did not survive early childhood. A son,
Cicero Harrison Crotts born 13 January 1868 in Randolph County, another daughter Julia Ann was born 13 March 1870 in Randolph County, and another son,
Thomas Lindsey Crotts born in January 1872 in Randolph County.
About the mid 1870s Samuel Titus and his family migrated to Pope County, Arkansas, and there Charity Myers Crotts died before 18 January 1877. On 27 October 1870 Samuel Titus Crotts married (2) Eliza Harriet "Hattie" Smith a native of Ohio, in Pope County, Arkansas. On 26 April 1882 Eliza Harried Smith Crotts gave birth to identical twin sons, Benjamin Franklin Crotts and John Albert Crotts.
On 13 June 1887 she gave birth to a daughter, Mattie Eugenia Crotts. Eliza Harriet Smith Crotts died before 11 December 1890 and it is believed that she is buried in an unmarked grave in Rushing Cemetery in Pope County. Samuel Titus married three more times, surviving each of his wives and died 23 July 1935 at the home of his daughter, Mattie Crotts Hickey at Ogden, Little River County, Arkansas. He is buried in Blackerby (Hopewell) Cemetery, about 10 miles east of Ashdown Arkansas.
John Albert Crotts was my grandfather. He died in 1960 at Yucaipa, San Bernardino County and is buried in Lamar Cemetery, Lamar, Johnson County, Arkansas.
