Joan Surratt Briles, 87, formerly of Denton passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Mountain Vista Health Park. A funeral service will held 2:00 pm Friday, November 2 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Gerald Miller presiding. The family will receive friends on Friday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the service at Briggs Funeral Home and other times at the home of Martha Hunt on Bombay Rd. Denton. Interment will follow at Lineberry United Methodist Church Cemetery. Born December 10, 1930 in Guilford County to Daniel Elvin Surratt and Maie Carroll Surratt. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther H. Briles on February 19, 1968; daughter, Nerissa Anita Briles on October 5, 2001; brother, Clyde Surratt; sisters, Wilma Hunt, Myrtice Byerly, and Katherine Kearns. She is survived by sister, Mary Mayo of Winston Salem and by several nieces and nephews.
