Ben Briles, 90, died June 27, 2008, at the Medical Center. Services were held Sunday at the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Loren Coleman and Donovan Olsen officiating. Burial was at Willow Grove Cemetery with the VFW and American Legion in charge of military graveside rites. He was born Nov. 6, 1917, in LeRoy, Kan., to William and Monna Briles, and the family moved to Wyoming in 1919, where they homesteaded near Arvada. He first attended school in a country school and then in Arvada, where he graduated from high school in 1935. He then worked on area ranches until being drafted by the Army in 1942. He was first an M.P. in California and then transferred to the 106th Infantry and served in the European theater, including during the Battle of the Bulge, where he was taken prisoner on Dec. 19, 1944. He was in a German prisoner-of-war camp for three months. He was liberated in May 1945 and received a Bronze Star for Valor for his service in Germany. After the war, he returned to Arvada and helped on his parents' ranch. He married Leola Dalsbo on May 18, 1963. They operated the Briles family ranch until selling it in 1969 and then worked on area ranches until 1977, when they moved to Buffalo. He worked for Butler Construction building metal buildings. Leola died in August 1991, and he continued working at various jobs in the area, including the Johnson County YMCA. He was a resident of the VA Medical Center at the time of his death. He is survived by a step-son Richard Dalsbo, two step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandchildren. Donations can be made to the Johnson County YMCA in care of the Adams Funeral Home, 351 N.
