The BIN was trying to establish who Ernest's parents were. We came to this conclusion: The BIN has contacted several family members regarding the case of Ernest Sheridan Briles. All were very reluctant to forward any information to us and we decided to base our final and official conclusion (based on standards set by the genealogy researchers and professional associations) on three factors: death certificate, census records, and (3) obituaries. Ernest's death certificate lists McCagger Briles as his father and Carrie (?) as his mother. It was common knowledge back then that many women had children out of wedlock. This is based on the number of "Bastardy Bonds" issued back then. McCagger was married to his wife, Delsena, when Ernest was born (1899). He would have been 70 and she in her middle 50's so we knew this was improbable. We Ernest died in 1992 no brother or sisters were listed. We also researched McCagger children's obituaries and Ernest was not listed as a brother. Census records from 1910 lists Ernest Sheridan Briles living with McCagger and Delsena Briles (at age 11) and lists him as a grandson. The BIN has working knowledge of most of the children for the Briles men under McCagger, i.e. James E, John Franklin, and Noah Harris Briles. None have a son named Ernest. This eliminates the men and the only daughter for McCagger left is Martha, Ettie and Carrie. Carrie is listed on Ernest's Death Certificate as his mother. In closing, based on the information above, that Ernest Sheridan Briles is in fact the son of Carrie Briles, daughter of McCagger and Delsena Briles.
