Ernest Austin Briles

Ernest Austin Briles, (7/30/1892 - 5/18/1975): Ernest was a noteworthy journalist and owned a newspaper, The Stafford Courier in Stafford KS. He was President of the Kansas Press Association in 1932. He was elected to the Kansas Legislature; the Kansas House of Rep. three terms, serving as Speaker of the House 1939-1941. He went on to be elected to the Kansas Senate and served as President Pro Tem of the Kansas Senate (I believe 1971-1972). He is the only Kansas Legislator to have served as both Speaker of the KS House of Reps and President of the Kansas Senate. He graduated from Campbell College in Horton KS
