Marriage

Graveside service will be today at 4 p.m. at Glenwood Cemetery in Fort Payne for Beatrice Octavia Akins Briles, 81, Gadsden, who died Saturday, March 19, 2005. The Rev. Kevin Thomas will officiate. Collier-Butler Funeral Home & Cremation Services directing.

Mrs. Briles was a native of DeKalb County and a resident of Gadsden most of her life. She was a member of Christ Central Methodist Church, Gadsden Lions Club and the Mimi's Red Hat Society. She was retired from the U.S. Navy and the Etowah County Sheriff's Department. Mrs. Briles was a member of the Eastern Star and a very talented stained-glass artist and teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Briles; parents, John and Josephine Akins; and a number of brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her brother, Jack Akins Jr., Fort Payne; sister, Irene Cox, Rainbow City; a number of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was also survived by her beloved pet, Tina.

Pallbearers will be Verbon Bynum, Fred Benefield, Ray Bradley, Jim Edminster, Ralph Moore and James Leftwich.

Honorary pallbearers will be Southern Care Hospice, Angels Healing Sitting Service, neighbors of Sherwood Drive and many special friends and loved ones.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
