Individual Details
Travis Crain Briles
(25 Nov 1985 - )
Travis Crain Briles was named for his great uncle Travis Hudson Wilson I. Travis's father David Elwood Briles spent a lot of time at the home of Travis H. Wilson I and his wife Maurine in Corpus Christi, Texas, while he, his parents, and his two sisters lived in College Station, Texas. Later, David's family moved to DeKalb, Illinois, but David returned to Texas where he attended and graduated from the University of Texas in Austin. By that time, Travis and Maurine had moved to Port Aransas, Texas. David visited them there numerous times while he was at UT.
Travis Crain Briles attended grade school and high school in Birmingham, Alabama, where his parents worked at the University of Alabama Medical School. Along with his sister Rachel, he was accepted at and attended the Alabama School of Fine Arts, a boarding and day school that included students from the entire state. (In spite of its name, at some point in its history, it added a division for scientifically and mathematically gifted students in addition to the division for artistically gifted students for whom it was originally established.) It was the scientific/mathematics division into which Travis was accepted.
Following his graduation from the Alabama School of Fine Arts in May 2004, Travis joined his sister Rachel at his father's alma mater the University of Texas in Austin, where Travis was accepted into an honors program for students wanting to do scientific research as undergraduates. As of May 2006, Travis had finished his sophomore year at the University of Texas, with the intention of majoring in physics, math, or some combination thereof.
