Rev. Billy Joe Yates, age 81, of Jarrell Road, Lexington, NC passed away Friday, July 27, 2018 at his residence.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 1 at Jackson Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Brian Smith and Rev. Gene Little. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
The family will see friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday, July 31 at Briggs Funeral Home and other times will be at the residence.
Rev. Yates was born August 1, 1936 in Randolph County to John W. Yates and Virgie Gallimore Yates. He was a graduate of Farmer High School and a retired self-employed building contractor. He was a minister of the Gospel, having served for 42 years as the pastor of Jackson Creek Baptist Church, Rev Billy Joe loved people and dedicated his life to serving God.
He is survived by his wife, Vickie Leonard Yates of the home;, a son Greg Yates and wife Michele of Lexington; a daughter Christy McGuire of Lexington; sisters, Joyce Mitchell and husband Wesley and Betty McElreath all of Asheboro; grandchildren, Stephanie Seay and husband Michael, Derrick Yates, Javan McGuire, Charity McGuire, Bethany Yates and Bethany Barton; great grandchildren Maylee and Addison.
