Death
Mrs. Jacqueline “Jackie” Hoover Sykes, 85, a resident of Thomasville, passed away on Monday, November 9, 2020 at Piedmont Crossing Retirement Community. She was born on August 31, 1935 in Guilford County to the late H.A. Hoover and Lola Hall Hoover. Jackie was a longtime educator who worked many years as a Spanish teacher. She started her teaching career at Trinity High School, and then Thomasville Senior High. After TSH, she spent most of her career at T. Wingate Andrews and then finished up as an ESL teacher for Davidson County schools. Jackie was a member of Emanuel Reformed Church in Thomasville and loved travelling the world. She was always a loving and generous person to her family and students. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William H. Sykes, and brother, H.A. Hoover and wife, Ruby.Surviving are her two daughters, Cathy Everhart and husband Dana, and Julie Hamilton, both of Thomasville; her son, Mike Sykes and wife Donna of Lexington; five grandchildren, Zachary Everhart, Andrew Everhart, Trevor Hamilton, Holly Hamilton, and Will Sykes; four great-grandchildren, Zaxton Everhart, Zaiden Everhart, Kailani Everhart, and Karryghan Everhart; and her brother, Raymond Hoover and wife Shirley of Liberty.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020 at 12:00 noon at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville with Rev. Bynum Orr officiating. Mrs. Sykes will lie in state at the JC Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville on Thursday from 12:00 to 6:00 PM for anyone to come by and pay their respects.
