Dorothy Lee Briles

Dorothy Lee Briles McDonald, 86, of Myrtle Beach, SC, was reunited with her late husband, Weyman Texas McDonald, while surrounded by her family on December 6, 2015. She loved her church, her family, and time on earth, but she longed to meet her sweetheart again... and after more than 50 years, she is now holding Mac's hand in one, and the Lord's in the other.
Dorothy was a lot of things to a lot of people. Friend, mischief maker, nurse, confidant, Dorothy Lee, Dot, Miss Mac, Mimi... but most of all MOM. She accepted all as new members of her family and delighted in expanding that family at every opportunity. A true Southern lady, she lived her life with humor, grace, humility, faith and honor.
Born in Winston-Salem, NC, August 19, 1929, Dorothy was the only child of the late Pauline and Lee Briles. In the 1940s, her parents built a second home in Myrtle Beach and the Briles family fell in love with the Grand Strand. Dorothy has called it home ever since.
When she graduated from Bowman-Gray School of Nursing, Dorothy and her best friend Phyllis Gates moved to Georgetown where they helped open Georgetown's new hospital. It was there that she met the love of her life, Weyman T. McDonald. A member of the South Carolina State Patrol, he walked into the E.R. as a patient and left with her heart.
The couple had three daughters, Paula, Janice, and Anna. After his untimely passing, Dorothy returned to nursing and eventually retired from the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base Hospital where she helped deliver many babies, and as was her style, kept tabs on a lot of them. She also "delivered" a son-in-law. David Miles worked with her and met and married her daughter, Paula.
Dorothy's girls were the light of her life and she was theirs. No occasion was too small for her to become a part of and she lived her life to the fullest. She and her girls traveled the world together and laughed their way across continents. When Paula took over the Miss South Carolina USA Pageant and ultimately North Carolina, Louisiana and Alabama, Dorothy became the Judges' Chairman and ruled with a velvet glove. All it took was a look... and you knew. But the look always was followed by a smile. Handsome men and dignitaries wrestled to be the one to walk Mimi into the auditorium.
Appropriately enough, she was in church when she was stricken. She wouldn't have had it any other way. She was active in First Baptist Church, volunteering in their prison ministry as well as numerous other local charities.
Dorothy is survived by her 3 daughters, Paula Miles (David Miles), Janice McDonald, and Anna Boyce, and one stepson, Weyman McDonald, Jr. (Patricia). She had six grandchildren, Ryan Miles, Paul Miles (Britteny), Morgan Batts (Henry), David McDonald (Buffy), Heather Grubb (Jeff) and Weyman McDonald III (Lauren), as well as 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, Myrtle Beach, SC. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service from 1:00 PM until 1:50 PM at the church.
