(19 Feb 1990 - 3 Aug 2013)

Speed is being blamed in the death of a 22-year-old motorcyclist from Denton who died Saturday in a crash near High Rock Lake.
Troopers say Justin Thomas Parrish of Petunia Lane died as a result of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash involving his 1998 Honda motorcycle. The N.C. Highway Patrol was dispatched to the accident at 5:08 p.m. on Holloway Church Road near Floyd Church Road.
Parrish, who was wearing a helmet, was traveling south on Holloway Church Road when he ran off the road to the right and struck a steel mailbox post, said Pam Kearns, a spokeswoman with the SHP. Trooper Kelly Britt determined Parrish's motorcycle overturned, thus ejecting him. Kearns said Parrish landed in the right shoulder of the ditch face down, and his motorcycle came to a stop in the right shoulder of the ditch also.
Britt estimated Parrish's original traveling speed was 90 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone. Speed at impact was 90 mph as exceeding the authorized speed limit and operating in a careless and negligent manner were determined as contributing circumstances.
Davidson County EMS, AirCare and the Southmont Volunteer Fire Department assisted troopers at the scene.
