Individual Details
Alson Lindsay Plummer
(4 Nov 1881 - 30 Jan 1933)
Lindsay was the son of John R. Plummer and Julia A. Hoover Plummer. He was studying at Johns Hopkins medical school when his father was killed in a train wreck near New Market, Tennessee. Oral tradition has it that the wrong body was sent to the family, and Lindsay went to Chapel Hill and identified his father by his wedding ring.
In those days one did not have to earn a diploma to practice medicine, but could earn the right to practice through an apprenticeship. Lindsay began his practice with Dr. Anderson, and later became his son-in-law when he married daughter Emma. Lindsay was known to all his nieces and nephews as "Uncle Dock". He had a practice and a drug store in Denton, NC. He and Emma had four children: Don, Julia, Craig, and Nell.
