Luke Brown, son of Josiah Brown and Susanna Gilbert, was born 25 Dec. 1780, in Chesterfield, MA The family removed to Meredith, NY, where Josiah Brown died on 26 Apr. 1814. Baker, dated 1962, page 61, found at Heritage Quest Online.Per the 1900 census covering daughter, Susan Brown Bresee, both of her parents were born in MA.

On 20 Oct. 1838, the Surrogate's Court of the county of Delaware, NY, declared that Luke Brown, deceased, estate was insolvent, and ordered Isaac Burr, the administrator, to liquidate the estate's assets. The court determined that Candice Brown, Luke Brown Jr., and Alfred Brown were minor children and that John Munson was appointed their guardian. See LDS film 833519 pages 133-134.
