His obituary in The Daily News-Journal (Murfreesboro, Tennessee) states he is "survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillie Murphy Fleming, two daughters, Misses Susie and Margaret Fleming; one son, Thomas Fleming; and three grandchildren, Miss Mary Katherine Espy, Miss Margaret Jean Fleming, and Mr. Billie Bates Fleming." Billie Bates Fleming and Margaret Jean Fleming are children of his son, Thomas Fleming, but it is not known how, Mary Katherine Espy, is related to him.
