Notes
Marriage
They were married by John George Young, a minister of the Lutheran Church. There are two affidavits by the minister in the widow's Civil War pension file for Conrad Shoffstall. One dated 1866 gives a marriage date of 4 July 1854 and the other dated 1864 gives a marriage date of 4 July 1855. Since their oldest child was born in 1855, the earlier marriage date is probably correct.Endnotes
