They were living in Alden, Hardin County, Iowa in the 1880 census surrounded by other families from New York:

The 1870 census and later censuses show James being born in New York. This is probably the same family in the 1870 and 1880 censuses since the parents are the same and James and Katie are exactly ten years apart in both censuses.
Margaret B. Grady, born about 1885 in Iowa, was living with James F. Grady, her brother, in the 1905 New York state census and in the 1910 census, in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York. She was not living with him in the 1915 New York state census.
James F. Grady was living with his daughter, Winifred, in the 1940 census in Long Beach, Nassau County, New York. An obituary or tombstone cannot be located for him online. His death certificate might give his parents' names. Find My Past is supposed to eventually put the Catholic parish records for New York City online.
