George WOLFGANG

George is listed as 48 in the 1850 census but his age is incorrect since he is a son of Michael and Elisabeth Wolfgang. He is living next to them in the 1850 census and they were the sponsors at his daughter Lavina's baptism. Michael's wife Elisabeth was the sponsor at the baptism of George's son Elias. The entry for Daniel E. Smith in the Genealogical and Biographical Annals of Northumberland County Pennsylvania states George Wolfgang was a brother of John Wolfgang. Four of John Smeltzer's children married Wolfgangs: Sarah married John Wolfgang; Daniel married Catharine Wolfgang (a daughter of Jonas Wolfgang born September 1807); Katie married George Wolfgang; and Annie married John Wolfgang, a brother of George Wolfgang. Since the John Wolfgang that married Sarah Smeltzer was a daughter of Jacob Wolfgang, the George Wolfgang who married Katie Smeltzer and John Wolfgang who married Annie Smeltzer were brothers. Michael and Elisabeth also had a son John that is listed in the 1850 census in their household.

George's first wife Catharina Smeltzer died in 1858 and he married Rebecca about 1859. His sons Daniel and Elias are in both the 1850 and 1860 censuses.
