William Basil PRATHER
(30 May 1780 - 15 Jul 1857)
William left Allegany Co., MD. for KY. to visit his uncle Capt. Basil Prather who had settled at Louisville, KY. (Capt. Basil as he was always called was Adj. Gen. at FT. Nelson at the end of the Rev. War.) Capt. Basil owned much land in Washington, Nelson, and Mercer Co., KY. While visiting his 1st. cousin, Capt. Henry Prather who had settled in Jessamine Co., KY., William met Ruth Wilson Her father, Thomas Wilson, owned land adjoining the Prather land on Clear Creek. They were soon married. Capt. Basil Prather deeded his nephew, William Basil Prather, 200 acres of land "for love and affection".
William Basil Prather served in the War of 1812 as a Private in the 7th Reg. Volunteer Malitia. He enlisted 28 Aug., 1812 at Springfield, Washington Co.,
KY. He was discharged the same place on 25 Mar., 1813. William also served at times as: Election Clerk, Election Judge, and the Washington Co., KY Constable.
