John Smith was a prominent Morgan Co., KY, gentleman. He was a sheriff there as well as a merchant in Ezel. He was also an Elder in the Christian Church. They had three children; 2 daughters and a son. The father and son relationship was good, they were equally very proud of each other. Asa, the son, who became a doctor, told about his father getting an award offered by Govenor Backburn for capturing a prisoner who had taken refuge in the Missouri Ozarks.
