Archibald Prater COOPER
(29 Nov 1827 - 9 Sep 1918)
He spent his early years hunting wild game, and later taught school at Oil Springs, Johnson Co, KY. He owned about 1000 ac near Salyersville, including all the head waters of Lick Creek. Their home was near the creek. Archibald studied Law at night and was admitted to the bar in 1859. Served the 45th KY Infantry as a clerk, and was involved in two or three skirmishes, one at Ivy Pt below Salyersville. He practiced Law and served as a Judge of Magoffin Co for 12 years. Distinguished as one of the leading lawyers of Eastern KY.
All the boys of Judge Archibald Prater Cooper and Polly M. Cooper became lawyers except Daniel Boone who was a farmer.
