William Smiley Lowe

William Smiley Lowe was born in St. Clair, Alabama to Caroline Harris on and John D.Lowe. His father was a farmer and ran a sorgrum mill . After his
marriage to Mary Hester Speer, he relocated to live on and adjacent t o her
father's plantation in Coosa County, Alabama. About 1909,the famil y moved
to East Texas probably near Marshall, Texas. At various times, he ow ned land
along the Red River-he is listed as living in Bryan Co. Oklahoma in t he 1920
National Census. His farm was part of the eventual Lake Texhoma comp lex and
after it was purchased by the government, he returned to Marshall, Te xas. He
rented an old plantation where he lived until his death. He died in M arshall, Texas where where he is buried in Grover Cemetary.
