Jessie Ray was born March 1, 1899 in Alabama to Connie Loftis and William Lycurgus Ray. At about the age of three, she was taken by he r father secretively in the night to Oklahoma Territory and never saw her moth er again. She was reared by her step-mother, Elizabeth Schweider mainl y in and around Mead, Oklahoma. According to her daugher, Helen Forbes this relationship was strained. She met Grover C. Lowe prior to World Wa r I in Mead and married him upon his return from duty. Her daughter, Hele n Lowe was born at the state Prison Farm in Aylesworth where Grover worked as a supervisor and guard. She died in 1926 from nephritis after the birt h of her second child who also died. She is buried in Purcell, Ok.
